a- adv. in one place; together, awamu ne, together with, okutwalira awamu, in general, generally, akatale ak'awamu, common market, emirimu egy'awamii, joint enterprises, work done in common. Balina ebintu eby'awamu ebibagatta. They have things in common which unite them. Agali awamu ge galuma ennyama. (prov.) lit. The teeth (aga- implies amannyo, teeth) which are together bite the meat. In unity there is strength.

Yali tannaba kumalayo bigambo ne mmugwa mu buwufu. I understood what he was saying before he was finished talking. Akabenje ak'amaanyi kaaguddewo olunaku lw'eggulo. A serious accident happened yesterday. Kino kyamuguddeko bugwi. This came to him as a great surprise. Ekigambo kino olwamugwa mu kutu... When she heard this..., lit. when this word fell in her ear. (la) kind of black soldier ant which bites fiercely. Eyawukana ku mugendo y'efuuka kaasa. (prov.) lit. (The nsan afu) which separates itself from the trail becomes a kaasa (an ant which is even fiercer). (Said of someone who flouts the accepted standards of the community and engages in questionable conduct.)

amannyo ama- zungu, false teeth, dentures. (Amannyo) agali awamu ge galuma ennyama. (prov.) (Teeth) which are together bite the meat. In unity there is strength, cf. akannyo, olunnyo, olunnyonnyo.

care for. kweyolera mpiri mu bunnya, lit. bring up a viper in a pit, i.e., nurse a viper in one's bosom, have a traitor in one's household. Akabwa ke weeyolera ke kaku- luma enteega. (prov.) The little dog you raise is the one that bites your tendons.
