well-trodden roads, omukwano omukuukuulivu, a well-established friendship, cf. kuukuutira.

a- (ka/bu) very small fly which resembles a mayfly. It is attracted to fruit, particularly bananas. Omukwano gubasaza mu kabu. (prov.) lit. Friendship causes them to cut into (i.e., to share even) a kabu. They are very close friends.

e- (ki/bi) drinking party; friendship; bond (between individuals), okulya ekinywi, to make a common cause. Ba kinywi kimu. They are close friends, cf. nywa.

o- (lu/n) wound, scar or cut on the head received as a result of fighting. Baana na baana, ng'omu tannatema munne lubale. (prov.) lit. Children and children, as long as one does not inflict a wound on his companion. Friendship and good relations can continue as long as both parties treat each other with decency and respect.

o- no plur. (lu/n) false friendship, pretended friendship, cf. kwana, omu- kwano.

e- (n/n) reserve (of food, funds, etc.). omukwano ogw'ensibo, a very strong friendship. cf. siba.

v.tr. appl. caus. restore to. return to; give back; bring back; give a portion of one's own meal to another as a sign of favor or friendship. Okuddiza guba mwoyo. (prov.) The capacity to share comes from the heart.
