e- also eggolu plur. amawolu (li/ma) leftover plantains; leftover food, leftovers; (in the plur., in addition to the preceding) jilted person, castoff. Amawolu galiibwa mujjukiza. (prov.) Leftovers are eaten by someone who makes his presence or desires known, cf. ^wola, -wolu.

e- (ki/bi) coarse mat made of plantain or papyrus fibers. This is one of the oldest type of mats known among the Baganda. cf. oluwempe.

get to, okumanya, okutegeera; for know use perf. tense of v., e.g I k.,mmanyi, ntegedde; become known, okwatuka, okwatiikirira.

o- (lu/n) fresh plantain fiber (as opposed to that which is dried, known as kyayi). cf. ekigogo, omugogo.

e- (n/n) kindof small animal known for its cleverness; clever/cunning person. Enkerettanyi, bagitega amenvu erya bi- bombo. (prov.) If you bait the trap for a nkerettanyi with bananas, it eats the grass (instead).

interloper, lit. I fell into them (-bi- implies ebigambo). nnabigwamu ng'ow'e Ssambwe, an intruder like the one of Ssambwe (who was very well known for this characteristic).

e- (li/ma) small package/packet. Kiri mu ttu, kimanyibwa nnyini kyo. (prov.) What is in the packet is known (only) by the owner of it. cf. akattu.

become known; be expressed; be pronounced; become audible. Amaloboozi gaabwe tegaa- tuka. Their voices were not audible/distinct. okwatuka inf.

also kijjamalenge (la) baby bom with feet first. (Formerly it was thought that such a child would grow up to he a criminal. It was often strangled and buried at the crossroads. Hence the word sometimes has the meaning of unknown corpse.) cf. olulenge.

v.tr. embalm; rub a little butter on the forehead of a deceased person. (This is part of an old funeral ceremony known as *taking leave of the dead/)
