armed robber ( a neologism which is much stronger than omubbi). kukuba kkondo (or bwakkondo), to commit armed robbery (esp. at night), cf. obwakkondo.

gooff, okukuuliita ne (na)..., to make off with. Omubbi yakuuliita n'ekiteeteeyi kyange! The thief made off with my dress.

lekesa (-iekesezza) v.tr. caus. 1 & 2 cause to leave/let, etc. Omubbi baamulesa emmundu. They caused the thief to leave the gun behind. Tulekese! Leave us alone!

namely. It is similar in function, to nti (q.v.) but implies doubt and unc ertainty. Yagamba nti alijja. He said that he would come. Yagamba mbu alijja. He said that he would come (but I am not at all sure that he will), as an adv. it would seem that, apparently, one might get the impression, they say. Mbu omubbi bamukutte. Apparently (I think, I have heard) they have caught the thief.
