The news continued to spread all over the country, kubuna kkubo, to stagger along the road (like a drunken man). obudde ne bubuna emiwabo, and it was dawning, lit. was scattering in all directions. Eky'abangi kibuna engalo. (prov.) lit. Something used by many people has finger marks. What is used by many is soon spoiled.

kneel in front of. Bangi baagendanga gy'ali okumufukaamirira. Many people used to go and kneel before him. v.i. kneel constantly; kneel all the time.

nnambye) v.tr. say; say to, tell, kwe kugamba nti..., that is to say, i.e... abantu abalala gamba nga nze, other people such as myself. Mbadde jrinamba nti... I thought/supposed that. Ani agamba? Is there any question at all about that? That is too obvious.

e- (li/ma) vengeance; rancor, okuwoolera eggwanga, to take vengeance. country, nation; tribe, okubeera/mu mawanga or emitala w'amawanga, to be abroad, ggwangamujje {lit. country-come), kind of drum used to summon the people in time of danger, oluyimba Iw'eggwanga, national anthem. Ku lwa Katonda ne Ggwanga lyange, For God and my Country (the motto of Uganda). Amawanga Amagatte, the United Nations. Amawanga agali mu luganda olumu ne Bungereza, the British Commonwealth (of Nations), cf. munna- ggwanga.

a- (ka/bu) clamor, uproar, kukuba hflvn tn matp o crrAay clamor.doud outcry (esp. of a large group of people). cf. olwayo.

a- (ka/bu) tiny fowl flea, okutwala ssente buloolo, to be very expensive, require a great deal of money. Ku mbaga kwabaddeko abantu buloolo. There were a great many people at the wedding.

a- (ka/bu) cloth placed over the eyes; game of blindman's buff, okusiba abantu kantuntunu, to pull the wool over people's eyes, deceive people.

a- (ka/bu) a kind of bean which resembles a lima bean but is much smaller, butter bean. Abantu ba kuno baamutwala teyeesibidde na kayindi. The people here sent him packing or (in a political context) they threw him out of office, lit. took him, he did not tie up beans for himself. (Formerly travelers used to take beans of this sort with them on long trips. The person referred to in the example left so quickly that he could not make the usual preparation.)

a- (ka/bu) intersecting; passing of individuals or groups moving in opposite directions, as an adv. in the opposite direction/opposite way. Kaabadde kayisanyo ka malusu na ddookooli. People (or vehicles, moving objects, etc.) were moving in opposite directions. There was a great commotion/total pandemonium, lit. there was an intersecting of saliva and the adam's apple, cf. 2yita.

a- (ka/bu) large amount, large quantity, akeesedde k'abantu, a large number of people, akeesedde ka ssente, a great deal of money.

e- with the -a of rel. partly ripened (of fruit); not completely done (of food); light colored (of Africans), empafu ey'eki- bogwe, a partially ripened mpafu fruit. Abantu abasinga obungi mu bitundu bino balina obugunjufu bwa kibogwe. Most of the people in these areas have a defective/ poor culture.

e- (ki/bi) cluster; group; crowd; gang; concentration, ekikuukuulu ky'abantu, a group of people (concentrated in one area). cf. akakuukuulu.

e- (ki/bi) error, flaw, wrong (of a more permanent nature than that expres sed by kisobyo). Enkola ey'okusosola mu bantu eriko ebisobu bingi. The practice of discrimination against people has many evil aspects, cf. sobya.

e- (ki/bi) usually plur. pus formation in a sore eye; matter which accumulates in the eyes during sleep; colloq. miserable, hateful wretch, \bantu abaali eyo ow'enjo- gcra in hi ug'abayiia binyinyi. Tnere were an enormous number of people there, lit. one who uses bad language would call them binyinyi. cf. akanyinyi.

e- (ki/bi) as an attrib. with or without the -a of rel. wild, undisciplined; obnoxious (of people), ekiwalattule ky'omwana, a brat. Omusajja ekiwalattule! What a wild, wicked man!

up to the waist, as far as the waist. Nfukiramu caayi okukomya mu makkati. Pour out some tea for me up to the middle of the glass. Yankomya ku ssomero. He accompanied me to school, gye -komya + inf... gye -komya + inf., the more...the more. Gye tukomya okuyiga ennyo gye tu- komya n'okufuna obubonero obulungi. The more we concentrate on our studies the better our grades will be. \bamu gye baakomyanga okutendereza omwami naye gye yakomya n'okwenyumiriza. The more some people praised the chief, the prouder he became.

e- (ki/bi) a banana leaf that is carefully smoked over the fire and used as a container for locally made medicine; plume of banana leaves for ornamenting beer gourds of important people, cf. ol li worn ho.

e- adv. kutta kizizi, to massacre, kill (defenseless people or animals), kufa kizizi, to die in mass; to die in an accident or catastrophe in which many are killed. cf. zzizi.

kolebwa (-koleddwa) v.i. pass, be done/made, etc. Abalwadde balabika oku- kolwako eddagala lino. The sick people seem to be favorably affected by this medicine.

argue, dispute; struggle, etteeka erikontana n'empisa z'abantu, a law which conflicts with the customs of the people, cf. omu- kontanyi.

flow, flow away (often with force, as a body of water); fig. pass by in large numbers (of people); pass, flow by (of periods of time).

ndozze) v.tr. tell, recount, narrate, okulojja omukwano, to declare/express one's love. Kye nnalaba mu ... ndi fa nkirojja. What I saw in ... I will remember as long as I live, lit. I will die recounting it. Amulojja temumala. He is really amazed at him (in either a good or bad sense). Buli omu alulojja bubwe. Everyone tells it/describes it from his own point of view (said when different people give different reports of the same incident).

o- plur. emba (lu/n) jaw. abantu abatakyalina we bassa luba, people who no longer have any place to sleep/anywhere to take refuge, lit. where they put the j aw. olvuluiuu cmbu, to "lit thD ^eeth embabbaiala.

o- no plur. (lu/h) large amount, great quantity, olufuubanja lw'abantu, a multitude of people, olufuubanja lw'en- simbi, a great deal of money.

sing, used collectively (la) kind of tiny ant. They collect in large numbers on uncovered meat, bones, etc. munyeera w'abantu, a huge gathering of people, kuteevuunya nga munyeera, swarm/ be crowded together like ants (said of a crowded gathering of people). cf. obu- nyeera.

e- (n/n) cooking pot (so named because when people used to go foraging for food [cf. saka] they took along a pot in which to put food), cf. saka, 1 akasaka.

sengusa (-sengusizza) v.tr. conv. caus. cause to leave; cause to move, move (e.g., people) from one place to another. cf. obusenze, omusenze.
