o- (bu/-) old age; relig. Protestant ministry. Obukadde magezi. (prov.) Old age is wisdom, cf. -kadde.

o- plur. empombo (lu/n) a young leaf of the banana plant which, after being softened by exposure to the sun, is used in cooking vegetable sauces. The sauce is inserted into about four layers of empombo and then steamed in the pot along with the main food dishes. Amagezi luwombo, bwe luyulika ng'osala olulala. (prov.) Wisdom is a luwombo; when it gets torn you can always cut another one. If one method fails, a wise person will adopt an alternative solution. oluwombo okulufumitamu akati, lit. to pierce a luwombo with a stick, i.e., throw cold water on someone's plans, ideas, etc. cf. ekiwombo.

a- plur. (li/ma) wisdom; knowledge; device, stratagem; advice; wit; skill, amagezi ga bnlijjo, common sense, everyday knowledge, omuwi w'amagezi, advisor, okusala amagezi, to devise a plan. Yasa- langa gonna (gonna here = amagezi gonna). He used every expedient. He did everything he could. Amagezi tegaba g'omu. (prov.) Wisdom/cleverness is not the monopoly of one person. Okwagala kulya amagezi. (prov.) Love benumbs (lit. eats) the senses. Love is blind. Note: the gramm. sing, eggezi (q.v.) differs in meaning from the plur. cf. -gezi, kalimagezi, olugezigezi.

e- (stem-bindi) (n/h) pipe ( for smoking), bukya luba nga luba lwa mmindi, for a very long time, kwogera bikulire nga mmindi, to speak with the wisdom of experience. Omwenge oguli eri n'ow'emmindi asena. There is a tremendous quantity of beer over there, lit. the one with a pipe draws (some). Tolikula olibnmba mmindi/ You are not going to grow up molding pipes, i.e., are you going to behave like a child all your life? cf. akabindi, ekibindi, olubindi.

e- (n/n) kind of termite. Amagezi ntakke, ekula y'ebuuka. (prov.) Wisdom is like a ntakke, it grows and flies away. Wisdom grows in a person and is of more and more use to its owner, magezi ntakke, a very clever person.

be quenched (of a fire); go out (of a light). Amagezi muliro, bwe guzikira oguggya ewa munno. (prov.) Wisdom is like fire; when (yours) goes out, you can get (more) from your friend/neighbor.
