o- adv. like food. Ekyuma ekyo kiyitirivu mu kusa amayinja, kigalya bumere. This machine is very effective in crushing stones, it smashes them to bits, lit. eats them like food. cf. emmere.

nzize) v.i. return, come back; go back; go; come up (of crops); take effect (of medicine), kudda mu mbeera, to return to normal, kudda mu maziga, to burst into tears; kudda mu ddiiro, to do a job over (because it was poorly done the first time); to dance again, kudda ngulu, to regain consciousness; to wake up. kudda buto, to become childish, enter one's second childhood (see buto for additional meanings). kudda ku mabbali, to stand aside, kudda mu bi- gere bya..., to follow in the footsteps of, succeed. e-: (emmere) ennimire, (food) cultivated by (others). Olya nnimire. You eat food cultivated by others (a very insulting expression, implying that the wife to whom it is addressed is lazy and cannot grow her own food), cf. lima, limira.

e-: emmere ennuma, food without vegetable sauce, main dish without vegetable sauce. Sirikuleka wabi, akuleka ku mmere nnuma. (prov.) lit. 1 will not leave you in a bad situation, he leaves you (eating) food without any vegetable sauce. Description of a fair-weather friend.

Akasukka omumiro tekabalibwa. (prov.) lit. What has (already) passed the throat (in eating) is not reckoned (as important). The more you have, the more you want. cf. mira, ekimiro.

v.i. Sc tr. redup. play at cooking (as children); cook in an indifferent/desultory way. fumba Emmere yamala gafumbafumba. She just threw the food together.

v.i. increase; abound; be abundant Prolific. Ewamm-e enkuba. yakanyeeyo? Did it rain a great deal at your place? Bw'agaana ggw'okanya kukaaba. If he refuses, you just keep crying all the more. (mod. form -kanyizza) v.tr. produce in abundance, okukanya emirimu, to work very much, produce a lot of work, okukanya ebigambo, to have a lot to say, keep talking. Olusuku lukanya emmere. The plantain garden produces a great deal of food.
