With the possessive prefixes are derived the forms ewaffe (less commonly ewattu), at or to our place; ewammwe (rarely ewannyu), at or to your place, and ewaabwe, at or to their place. e-: kwemala ggoga, to do to one's heart's content, fully satisfy one's desires. Abaagala omwenge bajja kwemala eggoga. Those who like beer will have all they want, kwemalira ggoga ku muntu (or ku kintu), to take it out on somebody (or something).

watered down; insipid, tasteless. Yatuwadde omwenge nga gwa jaalaala. He gave us beer that was watered down/diluted.

drink down, okwekatankira omwenge, to guzzle beer, drink a lot of beer.

e- (ki/bi) measure, measurement; size; build; extent, with the -a of rel. moderate. Kirungi omwenge onywenga gwa kigero. You should drink beer in moderation. Obuyivu bwabwe si bwa kigero eki- bayinzisa okusoma ebitabo bino. Their education is not sufficient to enable them to read these books, cf. ^gera.

to; at; among (of place, time and other relationships), ku mmeeza, on the table, ku lunaku luno, on this day. to express the partitive okulya emmere, to eat food; okulya ku mmere, to eat some food/ some of the food, ku lwa (before an infinitive), because of, on account of. Ku Iw'oku- beera omulwadde teyajja. Because he was sick (= because of being sick) he did not come, ku lwa (before a substantive), on behalf of. ku lwange, on my behalf, ku lwa Gavumenti, on behalf of the Government. Ali ku bwa Katonda. He is very seriously ill, lit. he is in the (obuyinza, power, implied) of God. Nze siri ku muntu ayagala okunywa omwenge. I do not care for a person who likes to drink beer. In form and function ku is related to the enclitic -ko, q. v.

o- (lu/n) open calabash or gourd used as a tumbler for drinking, kwemalamu ng'ogw'oluwa a wo, to act to excess (often used of talking or laughing), lit. empty oneself like the beer(omwenge implied by ogwa) of a tumbler, cf. ekiwaawo, empaawo.

o- with the -a of rel. half full (esp. of containers of water or beer). Omwenge yaleela gwa luzunzo. He brought a halffilled calabash of beer. cf. zunga.

-ewera (-eweze) v.i. refl. forbid oneself. Yeewera okunywa omwenge. He forbade himself to drink beer. This is a play on words. Th ere is another -ewera which means to vow, swear (see the previous entry). The sentence can therefore also mean He swore that he would drink beer. cf. -were.
