a- (ka/bu) small village. Tosekera ku kaalo katono. lit. You don't laugh in a small village, i.e., Your laughter is very loud. You laugh too much. cf. ekyalo.

a-: ekyalo ekigudde akaleka, a village having many extensive, well-cultivated and fertile banana gardens.

e- (ki/bi) village; large estate; the country (as opposed to the city), cf. akaalo.

o- with the -a of rel. scattered, spread out; sporadic. Ekyalo kya lubandaasi. The village is spread out. Yeebaka twa lubandaasi. He slept fitfully, lit. a sporadic (sleep, otulo, implied by twa). cf. bandaala.

o- no plur. (lu/n) annual festival held in the villages in which there were competitions in dancing, singing, etc.

o- (lu/n) edge (e.g., of a hill, of a village); boundary; coast.

a- plur. (li/ma) deserted village; deserted area.

e-: enfukaamirizi z'ekyalo, the outskirts of a village, ennyumba enfukaamirizi, outlying houses. cf. fukamira.

to express care/concern/sympathy for. Ku kyalo tewali yaŋŋambako nti wo wayi. In the village there was no one who expressed any concern for me (e.g., when I suffered a misfortune).

o- with the -a of rel. expansive, extensive, omuteeteema gw'ekyalo, an extensive village.

o- (mu/mi) a traditional kind of drum beat which is performed in the villages on various ceremonial occasions. (Each clan has its own characteristic mubala.) also motto, slogan.

offer for sale. Ebyennyanja baabibunzanga mu byalo. They used to hawk fish in the villages. cf. omubunzi.
